Q Haven's first competition was the Rhode Island state championship in May of 2006 and they took 3rd place overall and 2nd place in the brisket. They were hooked. Pit Boss and team founder Ted Lorson first heard about competitive BBQ on the Food Network, and really discovered more about it when searching for recipes for beer can chicken on the Internet.
Based in Norwich, Connecticut, the team name Q Haven is a play on words for the town of New Haven, Connecticut where Ted and his wife Sheila lived when the team planning began in 2005. They participate primarily in New England BBQ Society™ events and have a schedule of their upcoming events listed on their website: www.qhavenbbq.com. This year's schedule includes stops in Lake Placid, NY, the Harpoon Brewery in Vermont, the New Hampshire Rock-n-Ribfest™ and the Hudson Valley Rib Fest™ in New Paltz, NY.
Some of Q Haven's accomplishments already include: Grand Champions, New Hampshire Rock-n-Ribfest™, June 2006. Reserve Grand Championship, Winter Sizzler™, Lincoln, NH January 2007. Second place brisket and 3rd place overall, Rhode Island, May 2006.
