We are known most for our ribs & BBQ sauce, our sauce has won 10 contests in the last 10 years. We have only been a team for 10 years, this year Memphis In May™ was our 10th anniversary year. We started this team with the intentions of conquering the world, and feel we’ve done pretty good for a bunch of, to quote the old guys, “no cookin’, to much beer drinkin’, way to much partying, BBQ is a serious thing, no good kids”. We actually take cooking pretty serious, but if you can’t have fun doing it, what’s the point. Brad & I do all the cooking and have always talked about starting a catering business, and this year we did just that. www.pigsowar.com is the address and the website says it all.
Now a little team history. Our team was founded kind of on a dare, what’s the most expensive thing we can do to get to hang out together, other than racing, it’s BBQ. Five of us were Fraternity Brothers and went to school together at Memphis State University, now The University of Memphis. After graduation we didn’t get to hang out as much as we would like so we started the team. The first year was ’97, our first contest was Memphis in May™, our first trophy was for the T-shirt contest, and we were hooked. We took off from their and only bettered ourselves and our cooking techniques, as our awards clearly show. A team of our size and age is not supposed to finish so well, according to the old fogies, we’ve won more trophies in 10 years than a lot of teams have won in 30, especially our Memphis in May™ finishes. The next logical step was to start a catering business, and it’s taking off with a bang. Who knows what tomorrow brings for the pigsowar, were open for just about anything!
